Uplifting and inspiring, Joy from Africa to the World is a beacon of positivity and light that can change the world. This movement is an invitation to live, work and play in a manner that brings happiness to society; by being more conscious human beings and making better decisions for our planet, we show others that there are different ways to celebrate, create and collaborate.

Festive Spirit
Ours is a festive season deeply rooted in Africa. Playful beaded animals, a vibrant Summer Palace, chandeliers made from repurposed plastic found around Cape Town, Christmas trees covered in locally produced felt, baubles wrapped in recycled papier-mâché, and baskets from different countries around the continent make up the enchanting installations found in our neighbourhood at the end of every year. Handcrafted by some of Africa’s best artisans, these sustainable decorations share a joyous African tale with the world.

Queen Halima, Mother Earth

Queen Halima, Mother Earth who protects all living things on land, in the air and water resides in her IBHOTWE LASEHLOTYENI (Summer Palace) while giving shelter and life to all without asking anything in return. Mother Earth is always accompanied by her beloved Aziza’s

These beneficent fairy’s from West Africa, are the keepers of wisdom and reside with Queen Halima in the Summer Palace. Although shy at first, these wise magical creatures have grown fond of their role and become quite spoken and love to pass on their practical, survival and spiritual knowledge to humankind.

Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Kris Kringle, or simply Santa, certainly needs no introduction. With the aid of his elves, who make the toys in his workshop at the North Pole, and flying reindeer who pull his sleigh through the air, spreads festive joy to all the children of the world. Santa will be visiting Queen Halima for a little break ahead of his big day and is sending one of his elves ahead of time to prepare for his arrival.

Ever wondered how Santa knows who is naughty or nice? Santa has a group of trusty Elves who visit children during the holidays and watch over them. By day they sleep on the shelf with one eye open, while at night they get up to a little mischief of their own. Gimbel, is a rather naughty Elf himself and is being sent ahead of Santa’s arrival at the Summer Palace. Instructions have been sent to the Palace to keep a watchful eye on Gimbel as he loves to wonder. I am sure the Aziza will keep a close eye and if need be.

Gimbel, one of Santa’s elves will be visiting the V&A Waterfront accompanied by one of Queen Halima’s Aziza’s. Although Gimbel is known for his role as an Elf on the Shelf, he is in fact a naughty elf himself, getting up to mischief at any chance he gets, forcing the Aziza fairy to sprinkle a little fairy dust and put him to sleep to catch a break. Look out for him and the Aziza, and grab an image to stand a chance to win a R2500 waterfront gift card by sharing on Instagram.
