About us
Joy from Africa to the World (JFA) is our sustainable and one-of-a- kind take on the festive season. This year, we’re celebrating the magic that lies between the
mountain and the sea.

Every festive season, we collaborate with a community of artists, makers and illustrators to enchant your holidays with delightful large-scale installations all around our neighbourhood. They’re all designed to bring ‘Joy from Africa to the World’.

This visual feast for your senses pays homage to much-loved Cape icons like the mountain itself (and its cable cars) and our marine paradise, our neighbourhood Cape Wheel and Clock Tower, the colourful Bo-Kaap buildings, Mouille Point lighthouse and the region’s unique fauna and flora. So, visit our waterfront world this festive season to hear our Cape Town love song as it rings between the mountain and the sea.

Celebrating our 5th Year

Launched in 2019, JFA is a more relevant and representative festive season for Capetonians, South Africans and our international visitors to build cheerful memories around. Our V&A approach to this most wonderful time of the year proves that there is always a better, more joyful way of doing business.

About the campaign
Campaign Story
Campaign impact
Creating meaningful and long-lasting impact is fundamental everything we do with
Joy from Africa.

Our strategy prioritises job creation and skills development, as we work with our community of makers to show the world that there’s a more responsible way to celebrate the festive season. Sustainability is another core concern. Our installations are crafted from repurposed or sustainable materials, by local communities using traditional techniques. Grass-woven baskets, fabric offcuts otherwise destined for landfill and plastic recovered from recycling plants… it’s all been transformed into fabulous decorations that are ethical and authentic to our neighbourhood.

JFA was awarded a Loeries Grand Prix and BASA Award in recognition of its impact. In 2023, JFA features 16 festive installations created by 246 makers and artists from 35 local businesses.

Introducing this year’s illustrators

Every year, Joy from Africa to the World commissions artists to interpret the campaign in their own unique visual style, bringing the theme to life in full colour. These works of art embody each year’s message and are woven into the various elements that make up our mesmerising festive installations. Botanical illustrations by Joh Del and vibrant portraits by Sinenhlanhla Chauke are our way of celebrating our city, and honouring YOU! Meet the two creative masters behind this year’s artworks.
